Larry L. Smith, 75, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 6, 2022. He was born on April 9, 1947, to Grady Lee and Ellen Tesh Smith in Forsyth County, North Carolina. He graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1965, and worked for the City of Lexington Police Department, where he retired in 1994. After his retirement, he served at Davidson-Davie Community College as the administrator over the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. He was a member of the Gideon’s International: Davidson North Camp, and Tyro United Methodist Church, where he was a part of the Chancel Choir for many years. Larry had a lifelong love of music and was honored to sing with many different groups throughout his lifetime. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time outdoors with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jerry Phelps. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Ann Mabry Smith, son Michael Smith and wife Sherri, daughter Aimee Tester and husband Chris, grandchildren Deanna Clark, Riley and Gage Tester and his sister, Frankie Phelps.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 16th at 3:00 p.m. at Tyro United Methodist Church. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. Karl Ober, Dr. Brent Seifert, and Hospice of Davidson County for the wonderful care they provided to Larry and the support shown to his family.
