Magdalena Jellinek, 86, of Garfield Hts, OH passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Charlotte, NC. She was born on January 21, 1934 in Hungary to the late Istvan Telek and Margit Ferencz Telek.

Before Magdalena emigrated to the US, she worked beside a judge as a translator. After moving to the US, Magdalena worked at Lucy’s Bakery on Buckeye Rd.

She enjoyed singing and poetry and dancing. She lived through WW2. She spoke many languages. She would perform at her church in cultural events keeping the traditions of the old country alive. She was someone who people could easily love. We loved her kind and generous heart. Her memory will always be treasured.

In addition to her parents, Magdalena was preceded in death by her husband, John Jellinek; and her brother Istvan Telek

Magdalena is survived by her daughter, Magdalena Lavish and husband Brian Lavish of Charlotte.

Celebration of life to be held at a later time.

    Dear Maggie, Your mom was so nice and we always enjoyed the time we spent with her. I always got a kick out of our conversations even though at times I couldn’t understand, but we laughed and we always figured it out. You two had a special bond which is wunderbar and Brian had a wonderful mother-in-law and she was loved by our family too. May God’s love surround you with comfort and peace always.     Maggie, your mother was a very bright and nice lady with a wonderful personality. She knew many Hungarian poems and songs , I have always enjoyed to listen to her. She helped to my family when we came to the USA, and we have been good friends for many decades. She will be missed.
    We wish you and Brian a lot of strength to bear this loss, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Dearest Maggie, It was such a pleasure to meet your mother and get to know her through you. We will always remember her as she was when visiting family over here. When I look towards the heavens it will be a reminder of what a bright and shining star she was. Love from us. Cindy & Phil
