Martha “Bebe” Myers Raiford, 80, of The Pines at Davidson died on December 26, 2012 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. Bebe was born Feb. 15, 1932 in Lenoir, N.C. and grew up in Concord. She was the only child of the late Martha Murray Myers and the late Samuel Lestus “Les” Myers, former Mayor of Concord.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She attended Stratford Hall High School in Danville, Virginia and Finch College in New York City. Growing up in the family hotel business, she enjoyed a life-long love of meeting people. She carried that love throughout her life wherever she lived.
As a young married woman, she traveled extensively with her husband, a naval officer. Bebe became the first official hostess of Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island when her husband joined Charles Frasier as an original developer. She thought it was a wonderful adventure to live there before paved roads and phone service. She lived the rest of her life between Dallas, Texas, Concord, and Davidson. She enjoyed volunteering and was an enthusiastic member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
Bebe is survived by a son, Les Myers Caudle of Dallas, Texas and a daughter, Caren Caudle Payne and son-in-law, Frederick “Ric” Payne of Fayetteville, NC, and her loving companion Jeanette Jordan.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 29th at The Pines at Davidson from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A private, family graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.
