James Arthur Porter Sr., 87, of Salisbury, passed away on Wednesday October 19, 2011 at the NC State Veterans Home. Mr. Porter was born on July 27, 1924 in Hartsville, S.C., son of the late Ernest Porter and Maggie Miller Porter. James was educated in the Schoolfield School in Danvile V.A., he retired from Montgomery County, Maryland, and had worked for Pepsi. James was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving during WWII. He was a member of the DAV and the VFW, and enjoyed “Clowning Around” as an amateur clown named Jellybean.
Survivors: James is survived by his sons, James Arthur Porter, Jr. of Berthound, C.O., Wiley Thomas Porter of Winston Salem, and Stephen Jeffrey Porter of Salisbury. Sisters, Becky Hines of Union, and Grace Jerome of Peachland. Grandchildren, Amanda Stoup, John Thomas Porter, Mary Lou Kathleen Porter, Samuel James Porter, and Jennifer Ann Porter. And 2 great grandchildren.
Services: A memorial service will be held on Sunday October 23rd, at Neel Road Baptist Church at 2:00 pm, conducted by the Rev. Neil Westbrook, Pastor.
Burial: A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday October 25th at the Salisbury National Cemetery, Statesville BLVD Location.
