Mrs. Betty Jo Meadows Queen, 69, of Marion Lane, passed away at her home on Friday, August 17 after an extended illness. She was born on December 26, 1948 in Danville, VA to Roy Handsford Meadows, Jr. and Estelle Hodnett Meadows.
On April 2, 1967 Betty was married to Oscar Eugene Queen and was a caring mother for her step children, Jeff and Rhonda. Betty’s ultimate and lifelong joy came on May 17, 1971, when she and Gene welcomed to the world their daughter, Tracy.
Betty worked primarily in textiles prior to her retirement. She was an avid sports fan with the Dallas Cowboys, her favorite football team and Duke University, her favorite basketball team. She enjoyed with excitement attending NC State swim meets and cheering on Rhonda’s son, Christian. She loved roses and at one time had more than 100 rose bushes that she cared for.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Lee Meadows and her sister, Carol Pauline Meadows.
Surviving are her husband, Oscar Eugene Queen, of the home; daughter, Tracy Leigh Queen Tate and husband, Gregory Alan Tate of Lexington; step-son, Jeffrey Eugene Queen and wife, Patricia of Lexington; step-daughter, Rhonda Ann Queen McCurdy of Thomasville and step-son James Gregory Strickland and wife, Barbara of Hickory; brother, Larry Dean Lemons and sister, Tammy Lemons, both of Lexington; and a niece and nephew.
