Mrs. Evelyn Stedman Harris, 88, of Salisbury – beloved mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Liberty Commons Nursing Center of Salisbury. Evelyn was born on October 2, 1925 in Spencer, a daughter of the late George L. Stedman and Addie Jackson Stedman.
Mrs. Harris was educated in the Rowan County Schools, worked for Rowan Manufacturing and Fiber Industries, then became a homemaker. Evelyn was a very loving, caring and devoted mother who always put her family first. She loved being around children of all ages and always looked forward to the birth of her next grandchild or great grandchild. She learned to play the piano “by ear” as a youngster and played beautifully throughout her life. Evelyn did all of her mending and sewing by hand and in her earlier years, she loved to crochet. More recently, she enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles and playing bingo. She loved being around people, had a wonderful sense of humor and a great zest for life.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her husband, and three of her siblings.
Survivors include her children; Sandra Cooperman and husband, Steve of Pinehurst, Donna Shulenberger of Rockwell, Linda Christopher and her husband, James of Salisbury, Luanne Brown and her husband, Buddy of Rockwell, John A, Cofer, Jr. and wife Angela of Faith and Kenneth L.
