Rev. Theodore Schott Hoffmann of Mooresville, NC went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the age of 83 surrounded by his loving family and his wife of 60 years.
He was born in Dunbar, West Virginia to Russell and Eva Hoffmann. He graduated from Dunbar HS and received his undergrad and Master of Divinity degrees from Duke, and an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Pfeiffer University. While a student at Duke, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Campbell.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, steadfastness and faithfulness to his family and his church. His first pastorate was in Morven, NC, then was Associate Minister of N. Broadway, UMC in Columbus Ohio. Returning to NC, he served as the Chaplain of The Methodist Home in Charlotte, NC from 1961-1992. He was a member of the Order of St. Luke, Conference Director of Golden Cross, Chair of the Conference Commission of Health and Human Services, President of the NC Chaplains Association, and Peer Reviewer for United Methodist Association of Health & Welfare (EAGLE).
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter Lorie Lowell and her husband, Bill of Mooresville, NC; son Brian of Little River, SC; granddaughters Chelsea and Alyssa Lowell.
His children and grandchildren are grateful for his life of integrity, generosity and untiring care of his wife during her illness for the past 7 years.
