Roger Dale Safrit, 71, passed away peacefully at Atrium Health Cabarrus on June 27th, 2023. Born in Cabarrus County, NC, on April 21st, 1952, Roger was renowned for his natural ability to befriend anyone and his deep fondness for engaging in conversations and making new acquaintances, Roger was often found relishing the opportunity to share countless stories with those around him. Roger cherished the Cherokee culture dearly and identified himself as possessing the essence of a cowboy combined with the spirit of a Cherokee.
A veteran of the US Navy during the Vietnam era, Roger grew up in the Rimertown area. Throughout his life, he embraced various professions, including surgical technician, emergency medical technician, and electrician, as well as being foreman of the Buffalo Ranch in Concord, NC. However, his true passion lay in blacksmithing, where he demonstrated exceptional skill, particularly in crafting knives from railroad spikes. During the nineties, Roger served as the blacksmith at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC.
Roger was deeply connected to his community, where he served as an Alderman for the Town of Landis from 2009 to 2015. He avidly embraced and supported law enforcement. This was evident in his role as President of the Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers.
Devoted to his family, Roger leaves behind his wife, Karen Safrit, along with his daughter Diana Humphreys (Corey) of Concord, NC, and his son Shane Safrit (Amanda) of China Grove, NC.
A visitation to celebrate Roger’s life and share cherished memories will be held at The North Carolina Transportation Museum on August 9th, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests donations to the Carolina Raptor Center, reflecting Roger’s love for animals and passion for Cherokee culture.
Roger’s warm personality and storytelling endeared him to many, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those he encountered. Roger’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of his family and the community he touched, but his spirit will forever be remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
