Rose “Rosa” Mae Brown was born November 18, 1928. She was an exemplary soul whose compassion and devotion to others resonated beyond simple teachings. Teachings she took with her when she moved from her family home in Lancaster, South Carolina to her life in Stamford, Connecticut in 1953.
As her family’s matriarch, she raised her three sons: “Bobby” Robert Ernest Brown Jr, Timothy Brown, and Christopher Brown, independently after the passing of her husband Robert Ernest Brown. She maintained a balance of housekeeping, both in work and at home, all while enforcing the importance of education in her sons, all of which grew to be intelligent men.
Rose was strong-willed and unyielding but she welcomed those in need into her home. She hated to see others without a home, proper care, or love and extended her home and heart selflessly. So much so, that well after her own sons had grown, she raised her grandson, Robert Ernest Brown III, who took her influence of education to heart as he became a teacher himself. Even with the responsibilities Rose embraced, she found peace in tending to her garden, a trait that followed her to retirement in Kannapolis, North Carolina in 2000. During her retirement, she surrounded herself with family while her home became the hub for family events up to shortly before her passing.
At the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, her age began to limit her actions but her spirit remained persistent. She lived out the remainder of her days in the comfort of her home under the attentive care of her youngest son Chris. She passed in the evening of July 19th, 2020 peacefully in her sleep after visits from family including her son Bobby days prior and heartfelt good-byes from others.
At the age of 91, Rose lived a long life preceding her husband Robert, her son Timothy, and all of her siblings. She left her impression on all who came to know her. She left behind a beautiful legacy of surviving family including her loving sons Bobby and Chris, her grandchildren: Robert III, Anique Brown, LaChrisa Rose Brown, Asia Brown, and a bounty of great grandchildren. Her final wishes were to donate her body for scientific research. Afterwards, she is to be cremated and her ashes spread on her land that she worked hard for.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, once her ashes are returned. For more information contact LaChrisa at (704)796-4723
