With broken hearts, we share the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ruby Jane Kerr Goodman, 91, on August 15, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 16, 1930 in Rowan County, NC to the late Lender Denton Kerr and Martha Belk Kerr. Ruby graduated from Mt. Ulla High School and worked as the Director of the First Methodist Church Daycare for over 20 years. She was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist where she was active in all services of the church for 50 years. Ruby was active with Meals on Wheels, the homeless shelter and the soup kitchen for many years. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James “Jim” Goodman; and son-in-law, Jim Strowd; sisters, Neil Colin Barnes and Ruth Deal; brothers, William “Bill” Kerr, Flake Kerr, Paul Kerr, Grey Kerr, Lender “LD” Denton Jr. and Steven.
Ruby is survived by son, Kim Goodman of Spencer; daughter, Deborah Goodman Strowd of Davidson; grandchildren, Donald Clement IV (Rebecca) of Salisbury, Katherine Tierney (John) of Concord, and Anna Kerr Clement of Davidson; great-grandchildren, Kellie, Bella and Nick; sisters, Martha Brinson of Columbus, Mildred Helms of Salisbury, and Elsie Robinson of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is ever so grateful for the loving care she received from her caregivers, Peggy Brown, Cathey Whitley, and Kris Snider for the past several years, and also commend Carolina Caring Hospice for their continued support.
The family will greet friends at 11:30am at Milford Hills Methodist Church in Salisbury on September 9th, 2021 . A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 PM. There will be a private graveside service.
