Sylvia Geneva Jarrell Spiegel, 76, of Lexington, passed away March 16, 2017 at her residence.

Sylvia was born on December 21, 1940, to the late Jessie Jarrell and Mary Dean in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She worked as a nurse and in furniture manufacturing, and in her spare time she enjoyed volunteering at her church and gardening. Sylvia was a very active member of her church, Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, where she served on the church council, mission committee, and children’s committee.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Henry Spiegel; stepmother Louis Estelle Jarrell; 2 sisters and a brother.

Sylvia is survived by her son, Darrell Spiegel of Lexington, NC; brothers, James Jarrell (Diane) of Denver, CO; Bobby Jarrell (Michelle) of AL; Terry M. Jarrell (Catherine) of Lumberton, MS; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

There was a memorial service held on March 24, 2017 in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Welsey Heights United Methodist Church, 304 Sweetbriar Dr. Lexington, NC 27292.
