Thomas Moyle Small, 76, Gold Hill, NC passed away Wednesday September 26, 2012 at his home. Mr. Small was born July 29, 1936 in Rowan county, son of the late Grier Small and Helen Moyle Small. Mr. Small was also a veteran having served in the Air Force.

Thomas was an avid bird hunter and had a passion for raising registered world class bird dogs. Mr. Small also enjoyed farming and gardening at his home in Gold Hill and was instrumental in the founding of the Historic Gold Hill Park. Mr. Small had served on the Board of Directors for the park for many years and helped with its operation any way possible. Mr. Small was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Small is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Biles Small, daughter; Sherri Small Russell, and significant other Ruby B. Cole.

Mr. Small is survived by a son; Thomas E. Small and wife Amanda of Gold Hill, and three grandsons; Thomas Moyle Small II, Devon H. Small, and John Russell.

A Memorial Service will be held at Gold Hill United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 30 at 3:00 PM conducted by Rev. Anthony Moore with a visitation with family and friends to follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to Gold Hill United Methodist Church, 535 St. Stephens Church Rd., Gold Hill, NC 28071, as well as the, Historic Gold Hill and Mines Foundation Inc., P.O.Box 206, Gold Hill NC, 28071.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you Eddy,Amanda and the grand sons.
    Your dad was a special person and the best friend any one could have. He was always willing to help and never asked for anything in return. He loved helping others. We will miss you Tommy.God be with you.

    It has been almost two years but it seems like it has been a lot longer ! I really miss Tom and only hope to get to go to the happy hunting grounds with him one more time !!
