Virginia “Ginny” Carol Morris, 90, of Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC, died peacefully on Monday Sept. 16, 2013. She was born at home to the late Thurman and Fanny Hopper, who ran a farm in Logansport, Indiana. Ginny graduated from Manchester College in Indiana, taught school for a few years and married Dr. Leo R. Morris, her caring husband for 68 years, who will continue to reside at Aldersgate.
Ginny was a devoted and caring wife, mother and homemaker in Midland, Michigan where three children were raised. Upon Leo’s retirement in 1984 from Dow Chemical they moved to Hendersonville, NC and four years ago relocated to Charlotte. Ginny and Leo enjoyed camping, antique collecting and bridge together, as well as extensive travels throughout North America and Europe. She finished a crossword puzzle every day, enjoyed playing piano, was a Bridge Life Master, and an accomplished seamstress. Over the last seven years, she volunteered her talents to Project Linus by making 975 lap quilts for disadvantaged children…more than 11 quilts a month!
Her energy was great, her enthusiasm constant, and her integrity impeccable. She will be remembered for her selfless affable personality, an easy sense of humor, a genuine interest in others, and the thrifty habits she learned growing up in the Great Depression. Ginny had a passion for chocolates but adhered to a strict “only one a day!” regiment. She was proud of her natural hair color, which somehow never turned gray.
Ginny is survived by: her daughter Linda Ferrusco and husband Jesus of Guanajuato, Mexico; her son Wayne Morris and wife Carol, of Charlotte; her son Jeffrey Morris and wife Sue and her granddaughters Hannah and Jaime Morris of Maryville, Tennessee.
A private family service will be held.
