William Lee Fulton, Sr. “Bill” 83, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family, in Salisbury, NC.
He was born on November 5, 1932 to Walter and Mary Fulton of Leaksville, NC. He was a 1951 graduate of Leaksville High School, and employed by Fieldcrest Cannon as a Systems Analyst before retiring in 1992. Bill also proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard for 32 years before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Bill mostly enjoyed being surrounded by his family. He was a military history buff who enjoyed reading and studying military strategy, and watching war movies. He was an expert chess/checker opponent who never lost to any of his children. Bill was also an avid Carolina Panthers fan and remained loyal from their beginning.
Bill was a member of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America); a Life Member of the American Legion; and a member of the Gideons. He also served with Habitat for Humanity, and the Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief group.
Most important, Bill was a kind, giving Husband and Father, saved by the shed Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. For that, his family will always be grateful and have peace!
Bill is survived by his Wife of over 63 years, Betty Ferguson Fulton; Daughter, Cheryl Whitehill and husband Art of Randleman, NC; Two Sons, Bill Fulton, Jr. and wife Linda of Sunset Beach, NC; David Fulton of Richmond, VA; and 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his Stepmother, Kathleen Fulton; Brother, Wayne Fulton; and Sister, Janet Weddle.
Memorials in memory of Bill may be made to Hospice of Rowan County, and Wounded Warrior Project.
There will be a Memorial Service celebrating the life and service of William L. Fulton North Carolina Army National Guard Lt. Col. Retired on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Salisbury National Cemetery. Full Military honors provided by North Carolina National Guard.
