Mary Pat Kesecker says
To Ruby’s son and daughter:
You may not remember me. I was a member of Sleepy Creek Grace Church when you were young and I remember your mom with great fondness. She was about 15 years older than me and I always admired her. I thought she was beautiful – and she had an amazing voice. I have clear memories of her singing the old favorites (“How Great Thou Art”, “It is Well with my Soul”, “Amazing Grace”) with perfect pitch and a look of pure joy on her face. I also admired her as a role model. She seemed to me to be more brave than other women in the church. She would not always agree with the “elders” – but had such a wonderful way of letting them know when a woman’s point of view was needed – and getting them to agree with her. She was ahead of her time in many ways. An indepedent and courageous woman. My deepest sympathy to you and your families.
