Adolphus Leroy Smith, 91, of Kannapolis, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC. He was born on May 21, 1933 in Rowan County to the late C.A. and Florence Overcash Smith.
Leroy attended Landis High School and worked for Cannon Mills and Fieldcrest Cannon for 46 years. He was a lifelong resident and civil servant of the Enochville community. For 25 years, he served as a volunteer fireman with the Enochville Fire Department, where he held the role of Assistant Chief. Leroy also served as a precinct official for the Rowan County Board of Elections for close to 20 years. For many years, he delivered meals for Unity United Methodist Church’s Mobile Meals program.
Leroy was a lifelong member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church, where he actively served until his passing. Over his lifetime, he served as Council President, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, and lay reader, and was a member of the Property Committee, multiple Call Committees, Social Ministry Committee, Altar Guild and delivered meals for the church’s monthly community meals outreach.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Bost; brothers, Hugh, Hubert, Andrew, and Gene Smith; and sisters, Catherine McCombs, Mary McCoy, Claudia Edwards, Helen Baker, and Virginia Maxwell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years, Geraldine Moss Smith; daughter, Deborah Lee Smith (Charlie Frederick) of Salisbury and son in law, Donald Bost of Mooresville; granddaughters, Melissa Morris (Jamie), Kelly Wise, Erin Wise, and Meredith Bost; great-grandchildren, Garrett Morris, Brett Morris, Sophie Princess, and Daxton Princess; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Smith will be Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 11:00am-12:30pm in the fellowship hall of St. Enoch Lutheran Church with the funeral service following in the church sanctuary at 1:00pm, conducted by Rev. Dale Cline.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for their compassionate care of not only Mr. Smith, but the entire Smith family.
