Arthur Lynn Smithey, 84, of Salisbury passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 surrounded by his family. Arthur was born on September 5, 1930 in Salisbury, son of the late Fred and Clara “Mabel” File Smithey.
Arthur attended Dukeville Elementary School, Spencer Schools and graduated from Boyden High School. He is a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Arthur retired from Duke Energy in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury and was ordained deacon in 1965.
Arthur began volunteering with Habitat for Humanity when they first started building houses in Rowan County. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Good Shepherd Clinic, and the NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief.
His happiest moments were teaching others carpentry skills he learned from others as a young boy. His humble and gentle spirit carried him through his life as a man of honor and a child of God.
In addition to his parents Arthur is preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Crook Smithey.
Arthur is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Peggy Bryant Smithey, who he married on May 1, 1954. Daughter, Susan Lynne McClary and husband Steve; grandsons, Luke McClary and wife Jamie Leigh, and Zac McClary and wife Carejeanne; and great granddaughter, Scarlett McClary.
There will be a memorial Service on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 4:30 PM at First Baptist Church of Salisbury conducted by Dr. Kenneth Lance, Pastor. There will be a visitation following the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grueler Mission Fund at First Baptist Church, 223 N. Fulton Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
