Bette Goodman Hatley, 82, of 165 Phifer Avenue NW, Concord went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 16th at her family home, after four months of declining health.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, August 19th at 3 p.m. at Wil-Mar Park Baptist Church, Concord, NC, where she was a member. The Rev. David Haltom will officiate.
Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends and relatives at the home of her daughter, Renee’ Barnett, Concord, NC .
The daughter of the late Raymond Harvey Goodman and Eunice Harmon Goodman, as well as the wife of the late James Ray Hatley, Bette, fondly known as, “Bette Boop” never met a stranger and never sat on the sidelines for anything. She loved her family, dancing, and living life to the fullest.
She attended Winecoff School and graduated from Cannon High in 1948. There she lettered in basketball and was a cheerleader.
Bette’s passion for archery is legend, and she was the Southeastern Instinctive Women’s Archery Champion from 1962-1969. She was featured in an article in Sports Illustrated, and invited to join the Olympic Women’s Archery Team, but took time off from her hobby to raise her son Tracy.
She was a member of the Cabarrus County Art Guild and an amateur artist who worked with pencil, pen and ink. Her creative works included a drawing of the Old Cabarrus County Courthouse ,the four covered bridges of North Carolina, and portraits of family members and students.
She is survived by her son: Brant Hatley, daughter: Renee’ Hatley Barnett, son: Tracy Hatley and wife Melody Hunter Hatley, grandchildren: Chad Barnett, Ashleigh Barnett Austin, Alice Hatley Jones, Chase Hatley, Dorothea Barnett, Chance Hatley, and newborn great- granddaughter: Braelyn Barnett. She was preceded in death by her daughter in law: Paula Weiss Hatley, son in law: Jeffrey Barnett and husband: James Ray Hatley, a former Aker’s Motor Lines employee.
