Charles Edward Lanier, Sr. 85, of Lexington passed away on May 23, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Charles was born on April 1, 1936 in Kinston, NC a son of the late Leslie and Mildred Whitfield Lanier.
Charles was raised at the American Children’s Home in Lexington, he attended Lexington Senior High School before joining the Air Force where he was enlisted for 20 years., he retired as a Master Sergeant. He then started Star Heating and Air Conditioning. Charles was a member of Macedonia Methodist Church in Southmont. He enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles.
In addition to his parents Charles is preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Lanier, Jr.; granddaughter, Heather Gray; and brother, Thomas E. Lanier.
Charles is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Nancy L. Lanier; son, Michael D. Lanier and wife Dee Dee; daughters, Deborah L. Gray and husband Stephen, and Catherine L. Jarvis and husband David. grandchildren, Stephanie Chapman (Jerry), Dale Gray (Brooke), Cameron Thomason (Jonathan), Mackenzie Jarvis McArthur (Hunter), and Sean Lanier; great grandchildren, Alex Hurtado, Eli Thomason, Cooper Thomason, Austin Gray and Evie Gray; brother, William Albert “Pete” Lanier and wife Debbie; sisters, Patricia Whitaker and Laura Marcotte.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Over the years you and Charles became very special to me and it brightened my day when I would see y’all even if it was at the hospital most of the time. I am so blessed to have known him.
