Charles Phillip “Phil” Miller, 89, of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at his home in Lexington, surrounded by family. He was born on April 8, 1932 in Watauga County to the late Evans Miller and Ruby Potter Miller. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper during the Korean War.
Charles retired from the Maintenance Department at Dixie Linwood. He was a Welding and Blueprint Instructor at Davidson and Davie Community Colleges as well as a Diesel mechanic. In his younger years he enjoyed being a private pilot, riding motorcycles, traveling to the mountains and coast, going out to eat with family and friends, working in his shop and fixing things for others. Strawberry milkshakes always made him happy.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his son; Keith Miller, stepson; Craig Carter, brothers; Max Potter, Harvey Potter, James Kimberlin.
Charles is survived by his wife, Charlotte Coleman Miller of Lexington; children, Lisa (Chad) Philemon, Gail (David) Tiffany, Dale (Wendy) Miller, Lowell (Valerie) Miller, stepdaughter; Allison Carter; siblings; Frances Herron, Linda Laskowski, JR Kimberlin (Teresa), Frank Miller (Edie), Patsy McMillian, Wayne Miller (Sharon), Judy Horny, Hugh Miller (Petra); and special cousins, Nell Sowers, Bunny Cothten; brother-in-law, Brian Coleman (Trudy); special sister-in-laws, Bobbie Potter, Gale Marlow, Angie Coleman; thirteen grand children, two step-grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Plus a host of niece’s, nephews, grand niece’s and grand nephews.
A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held on Sunday October 3, 2021 at 3pm at Psalm 91 Church in Lexington, conducted by Pastor Max Shoaf. Family will see friends from 2:00-3:00 pm before the service. Due to Covid 19, social distancing and mask requirements will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice of Burlington (2975 Crouse Lane, Burlington, NC 27215).
