Curtis Stacy concluded his time on earth on August 1, 2023, nearly a month after celebrating his 84th birthday with family and friends. He passed peacefully at his home in Rockwell, NC. He was born on July 8, 1939, in Buchanan County, VA, to Berchie Matney and Arthur Jr. Stacy. He was a previous resident of Pounding Mill, VA for 29 years before relocating to North Carolina following the passing of his late wife of 48 years, Judith Hibbitts Stacy.
He was also preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Stacy, children Gregory Allen Stacy and Timothy Curtis Stacy, and grandson Timothy Curtis “T.C.” Stacy II.
Curtis leaves behind Brenda Mickey Byrd, his wife of 17 years, children Anita Tharlene Stacy Parton and Gary Parton of Asheboro, NC, Cynthia Lynn Stacy Earls and Rickey VanDyke of Bandy, VA, Shannon Mickey of Salisbury, NC, William and Angie Mickey of Salisbury, NC, Toby and Robin Mickey of Rockwell, NC, Christine and James Hinson of Ocala, FL, and April and David Burris of Salisbury, NC. He was lovingly known as “Poppaw” to his 14 grandchildren, Tanya Stacy Quesenberry, Ryan Parton, Michael Parton, Tristan Earls, Meagan Earls, Carmen Earls, Ian VanDyke, Billy Mickey, Brad Stamper, Brittany Miller, Haley Whitten, Seth Mickey, Daniel Beaver, Darren Mickey and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
A lifelong truck driver and mechanic, Curtis retired from United Coal before then going back to work and retiring a second time from Frontier Kemper as a maintenance technician. When he wasn’t hard at work, you could find him listening to classic rock music and enjoying life with great company as he was beloved by all family and friends who knew him. He was known for his quick wit, endless sweet tooth, kind spirit and being a lover of MOPAR cars and westerns.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 12 at 2:00pm at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Cedar Bluff, VA.
