We are sad to announce the passing of Davie “Dave” Young Trammell of Mint Hill, NC. He died in his home of heart failure at age 80 on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Dave was the son of the late Hilda Stafford and Judge Young Trammell of Kannapolis, NC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Malcolm R. Hall.
Dave was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. After learning he was ineligible to serve in Vietnam due to medical reasons, he volunteered for service with the American Red Cross. He had a long career as a social worker with Mecklenburg County. To say he was a great dad, grandfather, and partner is an understatement and he will be sorely missed. He had a great sense of humor, loved maps, postcards, and East Carolina University football and baseball, and never failed to remind his grown daughters and granddaughter to check the oil in their cars and to drive safely.
Dave is survived by his partner of 20 years, Ann Scandiffio; daughters Elizabeth Stafford Trammell Inman and Emily Caldwell Trammell Gulledge; and granddaughter Emma Helen Trammell Inman; brother, J.R. Hall, and four nephews, Derek Hall, Scott Hall, Jason Hall, and Jeffrey Hall.
Per Dave’s wishes, he requested no formal funeral service, however, an informal gathering will be held at a later date.
Carolina Cremation of Salisbury and Charlotte is assisting the Trammell family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com

Beth, I am truly saddened to learn of the death of my old work buddy Dave. He was a great social worker and always kept me laughing with his delightful dry wit. I had missed receiving emails from him in recent months and wondered how he was doing. Dave was a constant ray of sunshine. May he rest in blessed peace.

I am so very sorry to hear this. I worked with Dave at DSS and we kept in touch after he retired. I feel like I’ve watched Emma Helen grow up even though I’ve never met her. He sure was proud of her.
Keeping your family in my thoughts.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of my good friend Dave and send condolences to Ann and all of his family. I worked with him for many years, and our friendship and contact continued after he retired. Dave often spoke of how proud he was of Beth and Emily, his love of his granddaughter, his wonderful life with Ann, and his strong bond with his brother, and it was obvious how much he loved them all. His sharp wit and sense of humor always made him a pleasure to be around. He was a great man and will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.

I worked with Dave many years ago at Mecklenburg County DSS from 1986-1989. I left to work in Stanly County. I laughed at the comment about the oil. He was always giving advice. I remember he wanted to look at my grocery receipts because I complained about spending too much. He went through my receipt and told me what I shouldn’t be buying. I got a kick out of that. Us Social Worker’s try to give advice freely. My prayers are with y’all. He loved his family.
