Deanna Redfern (Parham) Martin, 80 years old, of 160 Evergreen Drive, departed this life on Saturday, the 14th of April 2018 at her home. She was born in Salisbury on the 6th of November 1937 to the late Theodore H. Redfern, Sr., and Gervaise Witt Redfern. Ms. Martin was a graduate of Price High School, class of 1955, and Salisbury Business College.
She retired from the City of Salisbury Housing Authority and was a long term employee and subsequent board member of the Salisbury-Rowan Community Service Council, Inc. She was an active and involved community volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and many local humanitarian and choral organizations.
Ms. Martin is survived by her three children, Curry (Beverly) Parham of Santa Maria, California; Tracie (Parham) Sommerville of Salisbury, NC and Bruce Parham of the home, beloved daughter in law Dianne Durden (Parham) of Valdosta, GA,; and grandchildren Deanna Sommerville of Salisbury, NC; Delandre “Dre” Parham and Bruce “Devon” Parham of Valdosta, GA, and Curry Parham, Jr., and Chris Lynwood of Santa Maria, CA; and a brother, Berry J. Redfern, Sr., of Charlotte, NC and sister Constance Redfern (Hasty) Wansley of Salisbury, NC and sisters in law Cyphese (Ramseur-Redfern) Plair of Tega Cay, SC and Ruth (Rhinehart) Redfern of New Jersey; special cousins Mamie Graham and Claudine Neely; Evelyn (Witt) Phifer, Ann Witt, Carolyn (Witt) Thomas, Margaret ”Peggy” (Fair) Harmon, Angela (Alexander) Hunter of and Joyce (Wood) Allen; special friends Brenda Venning, Mary Miller, Winnell Short, Sarah Jones, Winnell Short, Betty Clark, Betty Jones and Earlene Doe; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Ms. Martin was preceded in death by her son Thomas Parham and her brothers Theodore H. Redfern, Jr., Harold D. Redfern and Haywood E. Redfern, and the late Antonio “Tony” Walker whom she raised in her home.
The Celebration of Love will take place on Saturday, the 21st of April 2018 at First Calvary Baptist Church at 400 South Long Street in Salisbury, NC. Visitation begins at 9:00 am in the church fellowship hall. The Memorial Service begins at 10:00 am in the church sanctuary.

Sorry to hear about the death of your dear love one. Jesus promise that he is going to do away with death.(Revelation 21:4). What a joyous occasion it will be too welcome our love ones back.(John 11:25. Our tears then will be tears of Joy.

I worked in Deanna’s office years ago at the Community Service Council. She was a very nice person. I am so sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort soothe your hearts and ease your pain as you go through this grievous time. He will soon wipe the tears from your eyes and death will be no more (Rev 21:3,4). God has promise and it will come true.
