Donald Edwin Wells, 84, of Lexington, NC, peacefully passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury, NC.
Mr. Wells was born July 9, 1934, in Hackensack, New Jersey, to the late Albert Wells and Hazel Briggs Wells. He was a 1952 graduate of Hackensack High School and attended Fairleigh Dickenson University. Mr. Wells was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1954 until 1956. After 37 years, he retired from Public Service Electric and Gas of New Jersey where he was employed as a Claims Adjuster.
Mr. Wells loved doing crossword puzzles. He was a car enthusiast, who often enjoyed going to the New York City car show as well as working on cars with his son Donal. Mr. Wells was a fan of the New York (football) Giants team, the New York Yankees, the Syracuse University Orange, the Teaneck Highwaymen and the Olympics, especially the track and field events and boxing. Mr. Wells was at home in the kitchen, serving up meals like chicken marsala and lasagna to baking sweet potato pies, which satisfied many a sweet tooth. Always creative, some of the hobbies that Mr. Wells dabbled in were that of needlepoint and painting ceramic figurines; the latter realized after the passing of his son. An avid reader, Mr. Wells liked reading about spy and espionage, American history and former presidents. Never a stranger, Mr. Wells was an affable, gregarious guy, who could always engage someone in conversation, regardless of the topic. With his keen sense of humor, he is remembered for bringing smiles and laughter to a room full of many or just a few.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Walker and his son and daughter-in-law Donal E. and Victoria G. Wells.
Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Henrietta, his daughter, Tracy D. Wells (Lottie), sisters Patricia Foster, Mary Callis and Claudia Wells; beloved grandchildren Daniel, Eric, Elle, August, their spouses and 5 adored great-grandchildren. Mr. Wells leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.

Donald, how we are going to miss you. Parker and I both enjoy the figurines that you painted for us. Your Georgia visits to see Daisy, your Harry’s Farmers Market runs, and the many laughs we shared…these are memories that will live on. Rest In Peace, dear cuz.

Of course my condolences to the family, adding friends and family too because to know Don was to love him as family. Don was often misunderstood due to his quick wit and observations. I personally loved him for that and had no problem getting on him when needed. Don had such a good heart, a brilliant mind and the craziest sense of humor. I remember Don always having our back (disposing of any dead animals/pets) lol, being a surrogate boom pop, a jazz music aficionado and crossword puzzle guru. The hardest memory for me was visiting twice a year these past two years and witnessing first hand the decline in Don, Thank God he spared him from long suffering. You will be missed Don, rest well, it’s time to go see your Momma!

I would like to extend my condolences to the Wells Family.
I came to know Mr Wells through his daughter Tracy. Not long after, Mr. Wells helped me to get hired on at Public Service Electric and Gas Company, where I worked as a lineman. I remember the mere mention of his name would bring smiles to the faces of the office personnel.
A good man with a good heart to whom I will forever be grateful. May God continue to bless the Wells Family.
