Esther Eunice Sharpe Michael, 98, passed away peacefully October 23, 2025 at her home in Tyro, NC.
Esther was born January 18, 1927 in Linwood, NC to Samuel Alexander Sharpe and Mary Jane Penninger Sharpe. She was one of ten brothers and sisters and was the last surviving member of the Family.
She was a member of Tyro Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry Thomas “Tommy” Michael.
Surviving children are sons, Tommy Lee Michael (Sue) and David Rogers Michael (Wilma) and daughter, June Sharpe Michael Pope (Patrick). Esther had six grandchildren, Angel, David, Mary Thomas, Kristine, Sara and Theo and five great grandchildren, Andrew, Cameron, Charlotte, Emma and Elliot, beloved nieces and nephews.
Esther kept children in her home most of her working years. She was a ‘Mother’ to many in her community. She kept the nursery at Tyro Methodist Church for over 50 years and the nursery room there is dedicated in her honor. Esther will also be remembered for providing food, comfort and visits to many over the years. Her other talent was sewing which she learned from her Mom at a very young age. She made wedding dresses, children’s clothes (especially little girls dresses) and did alterations. She dearly missed sewing when her eyesight declined a few years ago. Esther was a hard-working, industrious woman who loved her God and her Family.
Esther’s Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the Hospice nurses and CNA’s that attended to her over the last few months. We couldn’t have gotten through this without their help.
In lieu of flowers or memorials please consider a donation to Hospice of Davidson County to continue their support and care for others.
A Memorial Service will be held at Tyro Methodist Church on Sunday, November 23 at 2:00 pm. A time for visitation will follow.
Carolina Cremation is honored to serve the Michael family of Tyro. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.
