In Loving Memory of Evelyn Nita Hewitt DeCarlo
May 27, 1942 – July 2, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the peaceful passing of Evelyn Nita Hewitt DeCarlo on July 2,
2025, at the age of 83, following a lengthy illness.
Evelyn was predeceased by her loving
husband, Cosimo DeCarlo; her mother, Jeanette Lucille Rowe Gizzo; her father, Philip Ralph
Gizzo; and her beloved son, Michael DeCarlo (Monica).
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Philip (Heather), Giovanni (Lori), and Tommy (Annie);
grandchildren, Arissa, Aubrey, Amanda, Giovanni Jr., Talia (Craig), Tommy Jr., and great-
grandchild, Eli.
The DeCarlo family and all who knew Evelyn treasure warm memories of time
spent with her. Evelyn was a skilled piano player who played by ear. She also played the
clarinet in her school band and, after graduating, joined a jazz band, where she played both
instruments. Her love of music inspired her children to engage in the magic of music theory as
well. She was proficient with a crochet needle, making blankets for her children and
grandchildren, maintaining a tradition of consistency and quality. She loved hosting weekend
pool parties and gatherings for her family and friends. Her creativity, dedication, sense of
humor, and calm presence are noted by those who knew her.
Although she will be greatly
missed, she will always be remembered for being the strong, loving matriarch of the family.
Carolina Cremation is assisting the DeCarlo family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

Mom, I miss you already! You were a wonderful mother. You have to admit, you lived a very exciting life and I’m so proud to have been part of it. Thank you for making me the man I am today. Give Dad and Mikey a special hug from me. And as I said before, if your ears ever start to ring, don’t panic it will only be me talking to you. 😘

Heather DeCarlo says
Evie treated me like the daughter she never had. She helped Phil and I with our girls. She was a phone call away and gave us great parenting advice. She had a great sense of humor and was very fast on her feet with her witty comments. Evie fiercely loved her family. Anyone who met Evie walked away as a friend. I am honored to have called her Ma and glad she is no longer suffering. She watches over us now.
Thomas Harding says
I have many stories of the generosity and kindness of Evie. She was an angel to me when I was a young student in need. I hope my children and grandchildren are lucky enough to have people like Evie in their lives. Rest in peace Evie. The world is a little darker without you here.
