Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, Gathen Justice Wood, who left this world far too soon on September 25th, 2025, at the age of 23.
Born on March 6th, 2002 in Salisbury, North Carolina. Gathen brought joy, laughter, and an unforgettable spirit to all who knew him. He had a smile that could light up a room, a laugh that was contagious, and a heart that cared deeply for his family and friends.
Gathen loved the Green Bay Packers, SpongeBob, nature, drawing, clothes and quality cologne. He created countless memories with those he loved, whether it was late nights spent sharing music, cheering for LSU or the Packers football games, spontaneous trips for Sonic runs, or just being present with his family and friends. His energy, humor, and kindness left an imprint on everyone’s life.
Though his time with us was far too short, the love he shared will last forever. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his stubborn yet caring nature, and the way he loved without hesitation.
Gathen is survived by his Dad and stepmom, Daniel and Sherry Wood of Rockwell; Mom and Stepdad, Margaret and David Shute of Rockwell; Sister, O’Shannus Wood of Salisbury; Paternal Grandmother, Vickie Cook of Rockwell; Maternal Grandmother, Brenda Barringer of Rockwell; (step) Paternal Grandparents, Karen Miller of Anderson, SC; and Roy Shute of West Union, SC; along with an aunt, uncles, and many cousins there are many friends and loved ones who will carry his memory in their hearts. Gathen was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandfather, Gary Barringer; (step) Paternal Grandparents, Richard Miller & Elaine Shute; and (step) Maternal Grandparents, Thomas & Sharon Nowicki.
A service to honor and celebrate Gathen’s life will be held at 1880 Rockwell Rd, Rockwell NC 28138 on October 11th, 2025 from 5-8pm. We will be hosting a Celebration of life bonfire serving some of Gathen’s favorite food and drinks. Family and friends are welcome to attend as we gather to remember the beautiful short life he lived. We ask that all who come to wear something in Green Bay Packers colors (Green and Gold) or Green Bay Packers gear and bring a chair & bug spray.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that his soul is finally at peace and that the love he gave us will never fade. May his light shine bright forever thru all who loves him.
Carolina Cremation is honored to serve the Wood family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.
