Wright (Wincie) of Enochville, NC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Dewey F. Turnmire (Della) of Warrensville, NC. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mrs. Stephania Turnmire on November 3, 2019.
Mr. Turnmire is survived by three children: Mr. Matthew Nanney of Anderson, SC; Mrs. Miranda Javis (Brandon) of Concord, NC and Mr. Dustin Turnmire (and fiancé, Amanda Smith) of Rockwell, NC. Mr. Turnmire was the fifth of six siblings including Tamara Bouknight of Kannapolis, NC; James Turnmire of Golden Valley, Arizona; Katherine Therrell (Tony) of Kannapolis; Betsy Harris (Mike) of Sevierville, TN; and Dee Ann Turnmire of Salisbury, NC. He is survived by six nephews and six nieces, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Mrs. Patricia Wright of Landis, NC; Mrs. Josie Wright of San Antonio, TX; Mr. and Mrs David Wright (Rosemary) of Enochville, NC; Mr. Walter Turnmire of China Grove, NC; and Mr. Frank Turnmire of Kannapolis, as well as cousins too numerous to mention.
He was educated in the Kannapolis City School System before joining the US Army. He was a former member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Number Five Union and worked as a commercial HVAC installation technician for mechanical contracting companies, Embree-Reed, Inc. and McKenney’s, Inc., both located in Charlotte, NC.
Mr. Turnmire loved life, people, cars and motorcycles. He was known as a helper around town – whether it was checking on an elderly neighbor, helping folks with car services and home repairs, or lending a hand with anything else anyone asked him to do. He was an extremely friendly person who always greeted family and friends with sincere warmth and a smile.
His family and friends will miss the laughter and genuine enthusiasm he shared every time he was with them. They will also miss his gregarious personality. Most of all, they will miss the brave son, brother, father, and grandfather who sacrificed his life
for others. John 15:13 – “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” ASV
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to charities of the donor’s choice.
Carolina Cremation is honored to serve the Turnmire family. Online condolences may be at www.carolinacremation.com.

Uncle George gave me my first car. I was 16 years old and could not wait to have a car of my own. I looked for weeks for something I could afford. No one called to ask him, no one mentioned to him my search, he just knew that I had turned 16, didn’t have a car, and loved to drive as much as he did. He randomly showed up to my house with a 1989 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo and said it was mine to have. We tore the roads up the rest of the day. I’m going to miss taking rides with him.

George was my best friend for almost 30 years and we would do so much together. Go just about every were to go fix people’s cars. He didn’t even care if he got anything from doing things for it. He was really more than a friend, he was a brother, a real friend I’ll love you for ever and miss you George 😔

George, Jimmy and me were the 3 musketeers. ( Or so we thought) The world saw us as the 3 stooges 🤣 I will not mention any of our escapades. You’re welcome 😁 He was an awesome big brother but an even better friend. He never met a stranger and helped everyone he could. I love you Georgie Porgie. The whole world is a little dimmer without you in it.
Stacy & Margie Turnmire says
Stacy, Margie and Jason are so sorry to learn of George’s passing. What a needless tragedy!
We send our sincere condolences to Melvin, Tammy, Jim, Kathy, Betsy, Dee Ann, Walter and Frank. We remember George from long ago when the “Kannapolis” kin would visit the “Mountain” Turnmire’s. Our love to one and all. God Bless.

He had a wide open loud personality. The only person I ever met that could ride a Willy 100ft. long on a 10 speed while changing gears. Once with a broke arm and leg both in cast. Just wide open crazy. 🤪 Drove a car once using a pair of vise grips. No clamps or even tape. Knew a lot about cars. Can’t believe his life was taken senseless. He will be missed. He was a good friend for a long time. And will forever be remembered. 😢
