Helen Caroline Hill Smith, 82, of Mooresville, NC left her earthly home into her heavenly home to be with her Lord and husband George “Al” Allan Smith Sr. of 59 years (who died eight months prior) on Sunday July 24, 2016 at her residence. Helen was born on September 17, 1933 in Greene County, NC to the late Fred Wesley Hill Sr. and Sudie Mae Sumrell Hill.

Helen worked in the accounts payable department of General Motors Insurance for 33 years. She was a long-time member of Unity United Methodist Church in Kannapolis and she loved to work in the yard and canning vegetables from her garden. She enjoyed being at her family beach home in Beaufort, NC and traveling with her mother and sister overseas and out west. She was happiest in her later years still being active, decorating for Christmas and spending time with her friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Fred W. Hill Jr.; and a sister, Doris Hill Stulce.

Helen was the beloved mother and best friend to her children, George A. “Lil Al” Smith Jr. of Mooresville; and Cynthia “Cyndie” Smith Clarke and husband David of Mooresville; a daughter-in-law, Joan Smith of Mooresville; a brother, Art Hill and wife Diana of Wilson, NC; her sister, Barbara Troelmane and husband Adriaan of Beaufort, NC; two God granddaughters, Lindsay and Madison Beaver; numerous special nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Meals Ministry or Building Fund at Unity United Methodist Church (8505 Unity Church Rd., Kannapolis, NC 28081).
