Judy Eileen Williams Helms, 69, of Salisbury, North Carolina passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 at her home surrounded by family. Mrs. Helms was born on January 7, 1944 in Rowan County to the late Mr. Robert Lama Williams and Mrs. Virginia Cline Williams Arey.
Judy was a 1962 graduate of East Rowan High School and attended Catawba College and East Tennessee State University. Judy worked for the Naval Air Rework Facility as a draftsman as well as Fiber Industries as a secretary to the engineering department. She taught in the Beaufort County School System in South Carolina before moving to Salisbury where she worked in the Special Education department in the Rowan County School System from 1996 to 2003. Judy was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Granite Quarry and enjoyed golfing, camping, and playing bingo. She was known to her family as Granny-Girl and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Judy is preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Williams III; and a sister, Norma Williams Shaver Hoyle.
Judy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Tony Andrew Helms; a son, Jonathan Andrew Helms and wife Amy of Randleman; daughters, Jennifer Lee Helms Shermer and husband Brad of Salisbury, Julie Eileen Helms and partner Gregory Todd Christian of Greensboro, and Kristi Faye Helms Stewart and husband Jamie of Salisbury; a sister, Sandra Williams Earnhardt and husband Nelson of Salisbury; grandchildren, Joshua Helms-Shermer, Christopher Coughenour, Andrew Coughenour, Garrett Shermer, Taylor Helms, Cody Stewart, Hunter Helms, Miranda Helms, Dylan Gunter, and Lauren Gunter; great-grandchildren, Ryan Colton Coughenour, Nathan Coughenour, Michael Coughenour, and Andrew Coughenour Jr.; a close friend, John Michael Presley, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Granite Quarry ( 234 S. Main GQ St., Granite Quarry, NC 28146 ) conducted by Chaplain Sayward Fletcher. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Rowan County Hospice, and the Salisbury Academy.

Mr. Helms although we all know we will one day have to cross this bridge, we are never ready to cross it. I know that words can not help to ease the pain of loss you and your family are feeling right now. Please know that you and your loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.
