Holmes McDonald Peterson, 72, of Winston Salem, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem, NC.
He was born November 23, 1947 in Burnsville, NC to the late Holmes Peterson and Lucy Robinson Peterson. Donald served as an Army Ranger in the Vietnam war with a rank of Sargent. He worked as a Director for Parks and Recreation of Burnsville and was a carpenter. He played softball for over 20 years and he also enjoyed hunting, riding horses, and coaching youth basketball. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and rarely missed a game.
In addition to his parents, Holmes was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Peterson.
Holmes is survived by his wife, Donna Austin Peterson; son, Gregory Don Peterson (Christy) of Winston Salem; grandson, Connor Peterson; brother, Zeb Peterson of Arden; and sister, Alena Grannings of Burnsville.
There will be a memorial service held at the Salisbury National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 9:00 am.
The family will accept flowers.
