Irene Whited, 74, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to so many died Sunday morning May 13th, 2018 at Novant’s Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Born on January 23rd, 1944 in Denver, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Elwine von Kaenel.
Before moving to North Carolina Irene she spent many years growing up, raising her son, and working in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. She had a successful career working in customer service for several large chemical companies. Her position with Hoechst-Celanese brought her to North Carolina and was also where she met her husband of almost 27 years, Michael Whited. After retiring in 2008, she put her energy in many areas. She and Mike enjoyed traveling and regularly visiting with family and friends around the country and abroad. She enjoyed volunteering at Autumn Care Nursing Home where she would give manicures and have conversations with many residents over the years. She was also an active member of the Newcomers Club of Salisbury-Rowan. She would participate in both the fellowship and outreach activities that this group provided. Irene was a prolific writer of cards and letters to the many people that she cared for or to others she thought might need encouragement. Irene’s kindness, and willingness to listen and help, blessed her with many friends. She will be greatly missed.
Irene is survived by her son John Medico (wife – Bianca, grandchildren – Sophie, Ava, Jack) of Houston, Texas, her husband Michael of Salisbury, and children Chad Whited (wife – Jill, step sons – Daniel and Troy Stanley) of Inman, South Carolina, and Jennifer Whited McDaniel (husband –Travis McDaniel, grand-daughter Kinley) of Greer, South Carolina. She is also survived by her brothers Walter von Kaenel (wife Karen) of Rochester, NY and Arnold von Kaenel (wife Karen) of Kona, Hawaii.

I hope that in due time your family receives God’s peace that excels all thought, so that it will guard your hearts and your mental powers. God is called the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. And so, trust that he cares for us and he would never bring us pain. A soothing scripture I like is Psalm 34:18 “Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” He promised that in the Paradise, we will have the prospect of enjoying life without end, free from all problems. Even our dead loved ones like Irene will be resurrected. (Psalm 37:9, 29; Revelation 21:4) Until then, may you lean on God to give you the strength you need in the days ahead.
