Mr. James Calvin “Cal” Simonds age 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the VA Hospital, Hospice House in Salisbury, North Carolina. Born August 12, 1941 in Waxhaw, North Carolina to the late Cleaven Barrett and Eugenia Simonds. James proudly served his country in the United States Army as an Engineer equipment repairman.
James retired with Law Engineering where he was employed for over 30 years as a Sub Surface Driller in Environmental Services. Later he became an owner-operator driving cross country as a truck driver. “Dummy” as he was affectionately known, loved to go deep sea fishing. He also enjoyed grilling for his family and friends, an avid card player and was a master at pinochle. James enjoyed listening to his favorite records and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers Larry Howie and Richard Barrett.
James will be loved by all those he left behind. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Carolyn Simonds of Charlotte, His children, Reggie Brown, Jermaine Brown, Calvin Simonds, Thomas Michael Simonds (Essence) LaTonia McLean (Steven) Kimberly Porter-Thomas (Sean) Brothers: Robert Barrett, Eugene Barrett; Sisters: Ruby Gregory of Charlotte, Robena Barrett, Emma, Rebecca, Heneretta and Ann. Grandchildren: Aaron Brown, Adarius Brown, Quintin Brown, Zanquisha Brown, Raqual Cloud, Mateo Cloud, Raynisha Cloud, Nadia Cloud, Achantis Brown, Jermaine Brown, Deion Brown, Kayah Diggs, Janay Porter, Dallas Fewell, Brooklyn Fewell, Cadence Simonds and Arie Simonds; Great Grandchildren, Aaron Brown, Ahnesti Brown, Carter Jones, Adarius Brown and Arrianna Brown

There will be a graveside service on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 11am at Salisbury National Cemetery
