Born on November 21, 1940, in Charleston, WV, James was known for his outgoing personality and gift for storytelling. His warmth and humor made him a beloved figure in every community he touched.
He attended Stonewall Jackson High School and spent much of his career as a skilled welder at Myers Tool Company in Lexington, NC. A true jack-of-all-trades, James was affectionately known as the family handyman—always ready to fix, build, or lend a hand.

He is survived by his son, James Robert Thomas II; daughter, Cindy Laree Thomas-Skeen; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many cherished grand-puppies and kitties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Sharon Thomas, and his youngest son, Bill Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to assist with final expenses may be made to his disabled daughter, who is handling arrangements.
James’s legacy is one of kindness, humor, and quiet generosity. His memory will be lovingly carried forward by all who knew him.
