Jeff H. Steinert
April 24, 1923 – January 28, 2018
Jeff H. Steinert, long-time leader in Hospital Financial Management, passed away at his residence at Plantation Estates. He was the son of the late Clarence H. and Erma B. Steinert. In World War II he served as a B-24 navigator and was awarded the Air Medal four times and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He entered the hospital field as accountant for three hospitals belonging to North Country Hospitals, Inc. in Gouverneur, NY. In 1954 he became Controller of the Greenville, SC General Hospital.. After serving as President of the SC Association of Hospitals, he became National Director of AAHA and then National President of AAHA (now known as the Healthcare Financial Management Assn.) Other professional roles included, Consultant to SSA Medicare Program and National Uniform Bill for hospitals; Assistant President, Duke Medical Center for Finance; Adjunct Faculty, Duke University; Asst. Vice President, Charlotte Memorial Hospital (Carolinas Healthcare); Regional Representative, Hospital Corp. of America; Interim Controller, HCCA; Treasurer of the Board of Directors, Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, GA. Awards: HFMA (Fredrick C. Morgan Individual Achievement).
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his previous wife of 51 years, Mary Schepis; a son, Geoffrey; and a daughter, Barbara.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (Russell) Steinert; a daughter, Susan (Robert) Fretts; two granddaughters, Adah (Cheston) Thompson, and Lauren Schools; and a great granddaughter, Felicity Thompson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Plantation Estates for the excellent care he received.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Church in Charlotte, NC or to Plantation Estates Samaritan Fund.
