Joan Marie Kramer, 83, devoted daughter, loving sister, cherished aunt, great-aunt, godparent, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Brookdale South Senior Living Center in Charlotte, NC.
She was born on June 1, 1943, to Theodore and Adeline Hamm Kramer. After graduating from St. Mary’s of the Assumption High School, Joan entered the workforce after high school and later continued her education, earning an Associate’s degree in Accounting from Wilkes University.
Joan was a dedicated professional, serving for more than 50 years as a Claims Manager at W.D. Iocono & Co. Insurance Agency. She was also deeply involved in her local community, holding membership and leadership roles in the Century Club in Scranton. Family and community were central to her life, and she cherished the many cousins and friends she had locally.
An avid traveler, she enjoyed trips around the world and was known for her independent spirit, loved by many. Joan had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a joke to get a laugh. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over ten years ago, she continued to persevere and remained active as a member of the Rock Steady Boxing group. She was known for being consistently present for her extended family and for her generosity and good heart. Her support of local charities and family remained among her proudest accomplishments.
In her later years, Joan became part of an assisted living community, where she was cared for with compassion and comfort by those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Poli (Kramer), and her brother-in-law, Arthur Poli, who also passed away in 2026.
She is survived by their nephew and godson, John Poli (Christine) of Charlotte, NC; nephew Robert Poli (Kim) of Colorado Springs; and niece Vicki Valyear (Scott) of Winchester, VA; as well as six cherished great-nephews and nieces: Ashley (Seth), Alex (Cameron), Jonathan (Nicole), Lauren (Trevor), Kevin (Myranda), and Nicole.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held in Winchester alongside her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Arthur. Following that a burial service in Scranton will take place on October 13th at St. Mary’s Assumption Cemetery in Scranton, PA.
