John Anthony Gustaferro, 53, of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Atrium Health Union in Monroe, NC. He was born August 7, 1965 in Queens, NY to Frank and the late Heidi Strausser Gustaferro.
John worked in many different fields, but was most proud of his work as a Truck Driver for Family Dollar Corporation. Prior to his passing, he was diligently working to establish a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of others with physical disabilities and mobility issues.
Johnny G was a larger than life character who pursued life with great passion and courage. He enjoyed loud music, telling inappropriate jokes at the dinner table, drinking a beer or Coke, and (mostly) listening to himself talk. He had a great love of food and an irrational fear of gnomes. Prior to his illness, Johnny enjoyed playing baseball, racing motocross and playing golf. He enjoyed fishing the shores of Lake Erie and proudly displayed his greatest catch, a huge Northern Pike, which he used as proof that fish have teeth.
In addition to his mother, John was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Antoinette Detore Gustaferro, maternal grandparents Don and Jessie Estep Strausser, and paternal aunt Lucille Gustaferro Fortney.
In addition to his father, John is survived by his sister, Annette Davis; his niece Taylor Gustaferro; his best friend and roommate John Partee; his two daughters Erin Ahlstrom and Miranda Gustaferro; his step-mother, AnnMarie Gustaferro; and his four grandchildren Liam, Avery, Landon and Lanie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 26th at from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at Beantown Tavern in Matthews, NC. Please bring any photos as well as your favorite memories of Johnny G to share with the group.
