Joyce Ann Vinoski, 86, wife of the late Bernard B. Vinoski, Sr., MD, Col (ret) USAF of Beaufort, SC passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017. A memorial mass at 2:00 pm will be held January 12, 2018 at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Beaufort, SC.
Joyce was born June 30, 1931 in Lancaster, PA, daughter of John and Catherine Dickinson. A member of the McCaskey High School class of ‘49, she went on to nursing school at Lancaster General Hospital. Joyce relocated to Florida, where she served as a Registered Nurse and member of the Nurses’ Auxiliary at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Miami Beach. Soon thereafter, she met and married the love of her life, Bernard B. Vinoski, MD from S. Connellsville, PA. They opened an office in North Miami to practice Family Medicine.
A devoted mother and homemaker, Joyce left the medical profession to raise their five children. Well known for her culinary expertise, she was featured in an article in The Miami Herald food section. International travel, philanthropy, and community volunteerism were among Joyce’s priorities.
After 25 years in North Miami, Bernie reentered the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon and Hospital Commander, and Joyce became an active duty USAF spouse supporting thousands of Medical Corps personnel at Pope, Dover, and Altus Air Force Bases. Upon leaving active duty, she continued to support reservists with the North Carolina Air National Guard and Army National Guard in Salisbury, NC. After five years in Salisbury, NC Joyce and Bernie retired to Beaufort, SC in 1989.
Many life-long friends were made during the above activities. Joyce’s compassion, dedication, eagerness to help, and wonderful sense of humor earned her the love and respect of all of the lives she touched.
Joyce was preceded in death by her brother Jack Dickinson.
She is survived by her loving children: daughter, Deborah Bradshaw, BSRN, (Tony) of China Grove, NC; son, Bernard Vinoski, Jr., MD (Marsha) of Titusville, FL; son, Col (ret) Timothy Vinoski (Kathie) of Tampa, FL; and twins, daughter, Kimberly Williams (Mark) of Kannapolis, NC; and Todd Vinoski, DVM, (Lee) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; seven, devoted grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
