Joyce Gail Fisher, 85, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.
She was born in April 1941 in Rowan County to Bruner Edward Beaver and Nellie Williams Beaver. She lived in Landis, NC attending and an active member of First Reformed Church in Landis. Her Faith journey also led her to serve in various ministries at Mt. Zion UCC and Concordia Lutheran in China Grove.
Gail had a servant’s heart, actively serving in her church and school community throughout her life. She sang in the choir and served as pianist for the children’s ministry. As a teenager, Gail was inspired by a visiting missionary to be a Youth Caravanner for the Evangelical and Reformed denomination. She wanted her own Faith to reflect what she witnessed in this visitor. The summer before her Senior year in High School, she traveled to Pottstown, Pa for a period of training and spent the summer serving at Bethany Orphanage.
While at Mt. Zion, she touched the lives of many and continued to pour into many ministries including leading in Sunday School, Youth Group, Girl Scouts, drama productions, and organizing whole church trips to John’s River Valley Camp.
Gail loved to cook. She often developed recipes and enjoyed cooking a big Sunday lunch for her family and friends. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to cook. Those memories and skills are carried with them today from a tradition of caring for others through baking and cooking.
Her creative soul led her to play the piano, paint, sew and make stained glass art. She encouraged and inspired her daughter’s love of art – always her biggest cheerleader.
Gail graduated from Landis High School and then attended Greensboro College. She was an avid NC State fan and loved watching sports. She worked and retired from Rowan Cabarrus Community College as a Purchasing Agent. Her fondest work memories revolved around helping and supporting students from all walks of life.
Gail was such a strong woman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands Charles Houston Cavin, and later David Fisher; and her brother Kay (Janice) Beaver.
Gail loved her family and was always quick to share how proud she was of them. She is survived by her daughter, Jamie (Chip) Gobble; Grandchildren, Evan (Tiffany Ellis) Gobble, and Anna Gobble; her brother, Jerry (Barbara) Beaver and many nieces and nephews who fondly know her as “Aunt Gail.”
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 3pm Thursday July 2 at Concordia Lutheran Church in China Grove, NC. She requested no flowers but memorials could be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
