Karen Smith Mowery, 70, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury.
She was born August 2, 1952 in Massachusetts to the late Matthew and Joan Richards Smith. Karen was a graduate of Salisbury High School and RCCC. She was a Guard for Deputy Corrections. She was retired and enjoyed being a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, knitting group, traveling and spending time with family. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her son, Mikey Anderson.
She is survived by her husband, Fred L. Mowery, Jr., stepson, Lewis Mowery (Gretchen), grandchildren Mark, Trevor and Dean Mowery, step-grandson Ross Wayne, granddaughters Ashley Yates and Emily Tucker and 5 great grandchildren; sister Yvonne Brincefield, brothers Matthew Smith (Lisa) and Mark Smith (Trudy), and nieces and nephews Jennifer (Jason), Jordan, Kristina (Perry), Heather , Adam (MegAnn), Kaden, Ava, Mason, Thomas, Brooklynn, Valerie, Cody and Katie; and sister-in-law law Margaret Kirby.
A celebration of life will take place Friday, June 16 at 12 noon at Franklin Baptist Church in Salisbury.

Karen usd to come to my water aerobics class at the JF Hurley YMCA and also to Creative Needles at Rufty Holmes Senior Center. She will truly be missed.
