Linda Ann Hunsucker Spencer completed her journey to be with Jesus on Friday, March 29th, 2024, at her home in Salisbury, North Carolina. The Lord blessed this earth with Linda on October 3rd, 1946. She was the daughter of Robert Hunsucker and Dorothy Mae Hunsucker Sanders, born in Catawba County, North Carolina. She lived in that area throughout her childhood, eventually meeting and marrying the love of her life, Jerry Lane Spencer, on March 12th of 1965. They went on to have two sons and one daughter.
Linda and Jerry moved from North Carolina to Atlanta, Georgia, living there for 17 years and eventually returning to settle in Salisbury, North Carolina. During that time, Linda went to school to become a nurse, along with being an amazing mother to two young sons and eventually a daughter, working tirelessly to make their house a home. She made lifelong friends with her vibrant smile and caring, humble nature. A lover of art, she was constantly learning a new skill or working on a project. She was the kind to never get bored. Her home was always adorably decorated (many decorations were her creations), clean and welcoming, often smelling of some type of delicious food she was cooking or baking.
Along with her personal life, she also had a long professional career as a nurse. She started in Obstetrics, helping to bring life into the world. She also worked for the health department in Atlanta. Upon moving to Salisbury, North Carolina, she took a job as a hospice nurse and continued this labor of love until eventually moving into Oncology. She worked in Oncology for over 20 years, eventually retiring from Carolina Oncology Associates. She constantly went above and beyond for her patients and coworkers, often meeting them after hours or on weekends to administer treatments or render aid if needed. Her compassionate and nurturing nature made her a favorite of her patients and they constantly gave her small gifts and trinkets, all of which she treasured and saved.
Linda was amazing at every role in her life, personal or professional. Daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, nurse, or friend. She was a quintessential southern belle. From an incredible green thumb to painting and stained-glass masterpieces, to seamstress and quilts, to crocheting, felting, jewelry making, basket weaving, interior decorating, baker, chef, calligrapher, creator of Chrismons; the list is honestly endless. Whatever she decided she was going to do, she did with a determination that was second to none and she always mastered it. Once she became a grandmother, she set out to pass on her talents to her granddaughter, spending time with her gardening, sewing, and baking. But the one thing she did better than anything was shine Jesus’ light into the world with everything she did and everyone she met.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Hunsucker and Dorothy Mae Hunsucker Sanders, her husband, Jerry Lane Spencer, and her sister, Marie Gorupic. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved sons, Shawn Lane Spencer and Shane Lee Spencer, of Lexington, North Carolina, beloved daughter, Leah (William) Penninger and beloved granddaughter, Elli Josephine Penninger of Leland, North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday April 27th at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, North Carolina. Visitation at 1pm and service at 2pm.
Carolina Cremation is assisting the Spencer family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.
