Lois Christina Sherrill of Woodleaf, NC passed away August 5, 2023. A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, NC with the Rev. Mark Conforti officiating. Chris was a faithful, lifelong member of the church, and her trust in God’s love and goodness made her the sweet and kind person she was. She loved the members of her Sunday School class and spent many happy times enjoying trips and sharing good food and conversation with them. Members Nancy and Steve Sherriff were always there for Chris through good times and bad.
Chris was born December 14, 1955 to the late William Marcus and Lois Beaver Sherrill in Statesville, NC, and cherished her childhood years in Troutman, NC surrounded by friends and relatives, including lifelong special friends Jane Miller Dixon, Marilyn Dallman Seymour, Darlene Dallman Stroud, and Elwanda Fisher Wilson. Chris was a member of the 1975 class of South Iredell High School, and graduated from Mitchell Community College and Appalachian State University, majoring in Library Science, which was reflected by her lifelong love of reading. She was first employed by the Georgia Tech University Library, and never forgot what a rewarding experience it was. She retired after thirty years with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Chris was a gentle soul who was a Pied Piper to countless animals, and a loving friend, always ready to share a smile and laughter, and only seeing the best in those around her. She was a devoted daughter, doting aunt to her cherished nephew Sean, and she lit up the lives of her sisters and will always remain a bright shining star in their lives. She loved watching sports, especially the UNC Tarheels, and she never tired of visiting the North Carolina mountains or eating good barbecue. Usually a quiet and modest person, she surprised others with an uncanny memory of a wide variety of subjects, effortlessly winning radio trivia contests for fun.
Chris was preceded in death by her beloved partner Douglas Wayne Blake, and her sister Barbara (Mrs. James) McDermott, and close cousin James “Butch”(Rebecca) Beaver, and numerous other cousins, aunts, and uncles whom she cared for deeply. She leaves to cherish her memory sisters Mary Lee (Jerry) Hudson of Winston-Salem, NC, Peggy (Allen) Tomlinson of Palm Beach, Fl, nephew Sean William (Hynden Walch) McDermott of Los Angeles, California, uncle James (Willa Dean) Beaver, cousins Nancy White (Mrs. John) Massey, Cynthia Beaver, Charles “Chuck” (Betzie) White, all of Statesville, NC, and Nancy Sherrill of Winston-Salem, NC. She was fortunate to have kind friends and neighbors who were generous with their time and care and were a comfort to her, especially Ann McIntyre, Sylvia Moore, Renee and sister Kathryn and James Moore, and Tim Phillips. Chris touched many lives and would hope to be remembered with a smile and the wish that her friends live with joy and happiness.

Though out of touch with Chris after I moved away from salisbury, I’ve always remembered her sweet personality. She will be remembered so by all who knew her. Such a kind spirit.

My condolences to the family of Chris Sherrill. I worked with Chris many years at the Salisbury VAMC. She allowed my plants in her cubicle and they loved her. They just thrived. She and I shared many hours sharing and socializing. She was the one who taught me how to do my job well. She was a great teacher and and wonderful friend RIP. All your fur friends are waiting for you at the rainbow bridge.
