Lonnie “Brian” Nix, 54, of Salisbury passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Novant Genn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.
Brian was born February 1,1969 in Iredell county, NC. He was a member of Scout Troop 333 at St Matthews Church, earning his Eagle at age 13. Brian graduated from East Rowan High School were he served as president of the FBLA club and was a NC scholar. He attended Liberty University and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from the Chaplain Bible Institute. He was an ordained chaplain.
Brian was self employed, working as a caregiver for a special young man. In his free time he enjoyed cheering on the Tar heels and the Steelers. He was a avid golfer and enjoyed playing in tournaments with his friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Salisbury where he enjoyed singing both in the chore and The Living Christmas Tree. He had also served as a deacon.
Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Bessie Nix and Walter and Freda Brittain. He is survived by his parents Lonnie Nix and Anna B Nix. In addition, he is survived by his sister Amy Lowe and nephews Spencer and Lucas Lowe. Brian also leaves behind special bonus family members; Sharon, Ron, and Adam Horton and Hubert Moore and a host of friends.
The family will holding a private service. Condolences may be offered through the mail please.
The family would like to thank those at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House for their exceptional care. We would also like to thank our family and friends for their love, prayers, and support during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to The Living Christmas Tree at First Baptist (223 N Fulton Street Salisbury NC 28244) or Bethel Colony of Mercy (1675 Bethel Colony Road Lenoir NC 28645).

I was so very sorry to hear about Brian’s passing, but very happy to know that I’ll see him again. He was always so sweet and thoughtful young man. He was James and my deacon for a while. He took his role seriously! We could count on hearing from him regularly. After James passed away, I could count on hearing from him often. His radiant smile and spirit was beautiful and comforting and contagious! He will be missed by many!
