Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Loretta M. Marks, 80, of Pineville, NC, formerly of Utica, NY entered the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 18, 2022. She was born on September 11, 1942, in Utica, NY to the late Frank Marks and Santina Rosato Marks.
Upon graduation from Utica Free Academy in 1960, Loretta was employed for over 35 years as a secretary at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY, retiring in 1999. She also spent time as an Independent Sales Consultant for both Mary Kay Cosmetics and Sarah ,Coventry Jewelry.
She enjoyed spending time with her sister and family, leaving the home her father built in Utica to be closer to them in North Carolina. She was blessed to have her sister as a neighbor and loved to sit on the porch under the Carolina blue skies. Loretta was proud of her Italian heritage and loved to share it through her passion for baking. She is remembered for the many hours spent making cookies at the holidays and for her niece’s weddings. Her sausage roll will be missed by many. Loretta also enjoyed going to garage sales. She would spend Saturday mornings with her dear friend Jeri Lynn blazing trails for a “bargain”. She would spend hours crocheting and spent time with her crocheting group, the “Persian Pickles”, Her scarves, baby blankets, washcloths, hats and more adorn many homes of friends and family. She became a football fan after moving to North Carolina and loved the Carolina Panthers. She could be found in her living room cheering for them every Sunday. Loretta never met a stranger, our “Aunt” has been described as “an Aunt to all of us”. She will be missed deeply by so many including the lifelong childhood friends she was kept in close contact with until her passing.
Loretta will be forever missed by her sister, Genevieve Schreck and husband James of Pineville; two nieces that she loved as her own, Lynn Douglas and husband Stacey of Pineville; and Lori DeCarlo and husband Giovanni of Charlotte and her one and only special great nephew, her “baby” Giovanni Patrick DeCarlo of Charlotte.
The family is eternally grateful for the long friendship and care Loretta received from her dear friend Jeri Lynn Greenwood. The family would also like to acknowledge her medical team, Dr. Sappenfield of Carmel Family Physicians, Dr Lindbloom of the Jan and Ed Brown Center for Pulmonary Medicine and the staff of Levine Cancer Institute for the care they have given to her over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 1st at 1:00PM at St Matthew’s Catholic Church Chapel, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28277.
Carolina Cremation of Charlotte is assisting the Marks family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

I am one of the many friends of Loretta & Gene blessed with owning one of Loretta’s special hand crocheted scarves. Whenever I wear it I think of being welcomed into her home like she knew me forever, and not letting you leave until you picked out one of her masterpieces! I know her family will miss her terribly, but she is resting in God’s arms now🙏🌹.

Have been friends with Loretta for a long, long time. Way back in the days when she lived
in the Utica area. She was always pleasant and giving in a typical Italian fashion. She and my late
mother were the best of friends. I equate that because they were both outstanding food creation artisans. At one time I thought they were competing with each other. Both have left this world for the next. I can only hope they are still comparing recipes at this time. Loretta, Thank you for many years of true friendship. Rest in peace my friend.

The sweetness of Loretta will be missed by so many. So many in York Heights will forever remember her love of snow blowing in Utica! A kind note always, a loving voice. We got to know her when we were selling her house in a down market, and she became friends with many of us. My deepest sympathies. May her memory be eternal.

I just recently got to connect with Loretta. On a whim I looked for a Loretta Marks on FB- remembering the name of a daughter of Frank Marks from Utica who was my godfather & cousin of my father’s. She answered my message and we spoke at length a couple of times. Such a pleasant pleasant lady to talk to.
My condolences to all of her family and may she rest in peace.
Rachel Gallagher says
My parents and I considered her a member of the family. I’ve known her all my life. We shared so many confidences over the years. We had so much fun and a lot of adventures together.
She suffered so much at the end and is finally at peace. I will miss her always.
Together with my husband we send our deepest sympathy.

Loretta will always be my sister. She’s been a part of my life for more than forty years. We shared everything together – good times, bad times, and secrets that only she and I knew. My heart is saddened by your passing, but I know you are now at peace. See you on the other side my dear friend. Give Billy a hug and kiss for me. Shar💜💜

I have known Loretta since grade school. We went to Kernan School in Utica. My sister Patty (as Loretta called her) was her best friend all through school and they remained friends until my sister passed away. They both will always be missed terribly but it gives me comfort to know that they are both free of pain now and continuing their friendship. Love you Lorreta. Mae

Loretta,
I will always miss our laughs and fond memories of growing up on Watkins Ave in Utica. It has been a friendship
Of over 60 years.
Until we meet again in heaven behave yourself up there and wait for me!
Jerry Nethercott says
I was Loretta’s supervisor for many years before I too retired from Rome Lab. Loretta was always a very caring person in my book! I clearly recall she would bring in cooked corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day for our noon meal that we then re-heated in the office microwave! Since retirement, we resorted to sending each other pictures of our traditional meal, every year, every March 17th. Enjoy your Irish Meal Loretta and think back on our office dining with fond memories as I will do every St. Patrick’s Day. May God Bless You!

Loretta and I have been friends for over 30 years. I have wonderful memories of her and our friendship. She was like a member of my family and my boys called her “Aunt”. We spent many hours over the phone when she moved away and kept our friendship alive with laughter and memories each time we talked. I will miss her very much. She is in God’s arms now and watching over her family and dear friends. My deepest condolences to Gene, Jim and Lynn and Lori and their families. I will keep Loretta in my heart and my memories until we meet again. Love to you all.
