Margaret Jean Cruse Summers Hill, 93, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
She was born May 3, 1930 in Charlotte, NC to the late Wilder Allen Cruse and Margaret Jarrell Cruse. Jean graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, NC.  She worked for several years for the Board of Elections in Rowan County, and then 10 years for Home Instead as a caregiver.
She was a long time member of First UMC in Salisbury, and after moving to Concord in 2022, she joined Crossroads Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, participated in women’s groups at both churches, and rarely missed a Sunday morning service.
She was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening and achieved the Life Master certificate from the American Contract Bridge League.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, James Arey Summers, and their daughter, Gwyn Summers Jacobs.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Nancy Summers Friend (and husband Chip) of Concord, NC, a son, James Craige Summers (and wife Martha) of Durham, NC;  8 grandchildren: Stephen Keenan, Shawn Keenan, Lucas Jacobs, Matthew Friend, Leigh Friend Garcia, Kenton Summers, Landon Summers, Kelsey Summers Gyoerkoe, Gillian Jacobs and Jaclyn Jacobs; and 8 great-grandchildren: Jonathan Keenan, Lillian Keenan, Titus Keenan, Phebe Garcia, Kyleigh Garcia, Paxton Garcia, Salem Summers and Eden Summers. Also husband, Loyd Hill, and step-son, Larry Hill.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 10, at 2:00 pm at Crossroads Church, 220 George W Liles Pkwy NW, Concord, NC. Visitation with family members will be held following the service. Memorials may be made to a ministry where Jean volunteered, Elder Orphan Care, 349-L Copperfield Blvd, Box 211, Concord, NC 28025.
