Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
Our mother, or Mémé, as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren, was born June 25th,1931 in Stamford, CT. She grew up and married there, and raised her family in Brookfield, CT. She followed a career path in hairdressing as well as in teaching same at a vocational school. Whether in CT or NC, where she moved in ’96 to be with family, she would sing in a church choir, swim every day, garden or care for her grandchildren (especially Nicole).
Wherever she went, she made many friends. A stranger to none, our mother had a knack for caring. There was no one she wouldn’t be a grandmother to; she was always ready to love, hug and console. Among other things she loved (when not organizing a family reunion), was her connection to people. She smiled so grand when talking to them; it was infectious. You could hear how big her smile was from the other side of the phone.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Maria (née Calitri); father, Ignazio Spremullo; her siblings John, Anthony, and Julia; and grandchildren Aaron Wheeler and Nicole DeVere. She is survived by her children, Roxanne Elaine Wheeler, Richard DeVere and Dorothy DeVere Langley and their spouses; as well as her many other grandchildren; her sister Rose Gesualdi; and several nieces and nephews.
Although she will be greatly missed, we are grateful and blessed to have had the chance to share a full life with such a beautiful soul. Her caring spirit lives on strong in those of us lucky enough to have experienced it. And we know one other thing for sure: somewhere in Heaven tonight, she’s bringing her family together again!
Carolina Cremation of Charlotte and Salisbury is assisting the DeVere family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

Mary was a very special person to a very young mother with a very difficult baby. Mary would come everyday to my aid and take our fuzzy baby out for a walk so that I could prepare a meal for my family. She was truly a special friend that will never be forgotten. She will be missed….

My Aunt Mary will truly be missed by our family. She loved being around her family, and was always interested on what was going on in our lives. She always greeted us big hugs and smiles. She loved to read and learn about new things in life.
“A funny story from my mom, her oldest sister” My mom use to gets so made at Mary when they were going up because, my mom got stuck doing a lot of work, while Mary got to sit and read her books. Well, that is what my mom said anyway.❤️????
I love you Aunt Mary, RIP. Xoxo
