Maridee Sundling Hart, 67, of Salisbury, NC, entered the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, surrounded by family at her home. She was born on December 29, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Thomas Sundling and Patricia Dee Sundling.
Maridee, also known as Mom, had a strong childlike faith and loved her Heavenly Father. She was a member of Grace Convent Church and previously assisted with their infant nursery. Mom always maintained a positive disposition and outlook on life; rarely allowing negative thoughts to permeate her spirit. While in home hospice care, she repeatedly joked around with her nurses and her nurses always commented that her outlook on life was inspiring. Mom loved her family deeply and left them with wonderful memories of her love and faith. She was “DeeDee” to her grandchildren and provided lasting memories of sleepovers (aka Camp DeeDee’s), movie dates, eating fried chicken on her formal china dishes, and beach vacations. Mom was very close with her sister Patti and enjoyed their Sunday evening phone calls and visits. Mom has always been a fighter in every situation she encountered. Her greatest fight was breast cancer, and she was a proud 24-year survivor. Even in her last days and weeks of life, Mom continued to fight her good fight, which amazed her family and nurses.
Maridee is survived by her three children, Jennifer Waters, Rachael Sayre, and Andrew Hart, and grandchildren Brooklyn, Liam, William, Charles, and Caroline. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Tom) Dinkins, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Maridee was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Sundling Jr.
Mom planned her end-of-life directives, and her family has been steadfast in following her directives and decisions. She elected not to have any funeral services or celebration of life due reasons that were personal to her. Her decision will be honored by her family. Mom did request that in memory donations be made in her name to: Novant Health Hospice- Rowan, 1229 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
The family would like to thank Novant Health Hospice-Rowan for the dedication to Mom’s care and comfort in her final months of life. We are forever grateful for the care you provided mom.
