Marna Anne Miller Steinman passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on August 6, 2026. Born on June 26, 1945 in Marion, Ohio, she was the daughter of Arthur Dale Miller and Catherine Marguerite Hoffman Miller. She grew up on a beautiful farm in LaRue, Ohio
surrounded by her three brothers, David, Jon and Tom helping her mother in the kitchen and doing many farm chores. A graduate of Elkin High School in 1963, she loved playing clarinet in the marching band.
Marna graduated from Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus,Ohio in 1967. In 1966 she was set up on a blind date with Charles Thomas Steinman, a student at The Ohio State University Veterinary School. They quickly fell in love and were married in 1968. Life with
Charles was always an adventure. Shortly after joining the Army they were moved to Chicago and El Paso, each city serving as a community to raise their baby boys. In 1972 life brought them to a small southern town in North Carolina. Salisbury became Marna’s home for the next
54 years. She was an active member in many organizations in those years including First United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels and her children’s schools. Along with her love of volunteering she also loved being a nurse at Rowan Memorial Hospital. Over the years she was known to be a kind, compassionate nurse to patients and families in their darkest days.
When not working, Charles and Marna loved to travel. From Russia to Africa and everywhere in between, she loved traveling and experiencing different cultures and the people.
Her true call to life was as a wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother. She loved raising her three children-always with her loving and patient way. Known as Granne, she was always creating spaces for her eight grandchildren to play, learn and thrive. Last December she became a Great Granne to Romy Belle who brought her countless smiles these last 7 months.
Marna was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Marguerite Miller, her brother Jon H. Miller and sister in law, Ruby M. Miller.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Charles Thomas Steinman of Salisbury, her three children Dr.Timothy Charles Steinman (Jennifer) of Salisbury, Todd Andrew Steinman (Mary Heather) of Salisbury, Anne Steinman Dunn (Christopher) of Winston-Salem, her
grandchildren Dr. Gabriel James Steinman of Salisbury, William Lester Steinman of Charleston, SC, Amelia Steinman Homes (Lee) of Atlanta, GA, Dr.Grace Steinman Myers (Riley) of Salisbury, Joseph Charles Steinman of Charleston, SC, Zachary Joseph Dunn of Winston-
Salem, Hillary Caroline Dunn of Winston-Salem, Oliver Jacob Dunn of Winston-Salem and her great granddaughter, Romy Belle Myers of Salisbury, her brothers Dr. David Miller (Gail) of Augusta,GA and Thomas F. Miller (Cindy) of LaRue,Ohio and many beloved nieces and
nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of Rowan County.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Salisbury, North Carolina on August 19, 2026 at 4:00 PM.

I am truly sorry to hear of your loved one’s death. I just saw a video and pictures of her with the great grandbaby back in June during an emergency vet visit. She was just beaming with pride and love for that baby. May your love and memories of her help to sustain you in the days, weeks and years to come.
