Mr. Walter Henry Spiegel, Sr. 73 of Lexington, passed away January 26, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Spiegel was born April 1, 1938 in Middlesex, NJ son of the late Walter B. Spiegel and Louise Estelle Riechart Spiegel. He was educated in the FL schools, was a retired police officer of 19 years with the Boca Raton, FL police department. Mr. Spiegel was a Veteran of the US Navy having served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, and he was a member of Wesley Heights United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Spiegel who died in May 1968.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Geneva Jarrell Spiegel who he married October 8, 1956. Three sons survives, Walter Henry Spiegel, Jr. and wife Gilda, Dennis Lee Spiegel and wife Patricia, and Darrell Michael Spiegel all of Lexington. Two daughters are, Debra Lynn Spiegel of Lexington, Elizabeth Estelle Spring and husband William J. of Vestal, NY, and one sister, Margaret S. Yager of Port St. Lucie, FL.
There are also six grandchildren, Joshua I. Spiegel, Johnathan K. Spiegel, Joshua M. Berry, John M. Berry, William W. Spring and George J. Spring. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the V.A. Hospital Chapel in Salisbury, conducted by Chaplain Wagers, Rev. Jay Belk, and Pastor David Robinson, a graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM at the National Cemetery, with military graveside rites, conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard.
