Patrick “Pat” Reeder, 58, of Richmond, Virginia, died unexpectedly on June 26, 2025.
A memorial service will be held at West End Assembly of God, 401 N Parham Rd, Richmond, VA, 23229, on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 11:00am-12:30pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at Bar-ti-zan, 4035 Whittall Way, Glen Allen, VA, 23060 from 3:00pm-7:00pm.
Pat was born in Mount Jackson, PA, to Ray and Ednilou Reeder. He was the second of four children and is survived by his brother, Mike Reeder, his sister, Allison Ashbeck, and his brother, Ben Reeder. Pat married Renee Craig on May 27, 1989. Pat is survived by his loving family and his daughter, Alexis Reeder-Lewis of SC, her husband Rick, and their child Wayland; his son, Patrick Reeder Jr. of CO, his wife Cassie, and Patrick’s son, Cayden.
Pat attended Mohawk High School and earned his B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Political Science from The Pennsylvania State University. He graduated magna cum laude with his J.D. from Widener University and earned his LL.M. from King’s College School of Law in 2025.
Pat was a skilled attorney and public advocate, licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Minnesota, and Virginia. He began his legal career at Delany & O’Brien in Philadelphia, arbitrating over 100 civil cases and participating in more than 10 jury trials involving employment and civil rights issues. He later became Assistant Vice President of Claims at Reliance Insurance Co. In 2002, Pat and his family moved to Harrisburg, where he served as Chief Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at The BISYS Group. There, he helped pioneer e-commerce processes for regulatory filings using digital signatures. In 2005, he joined Genworth Financial as Vice President and Associate General Counsel. By 2009, Pat and his family had settled in Richmond, Virginia, where he founded his own firm, The Law Offices of Patrick C. Reeder, PLLC, offering legal services in compliance, legislation, and litigation. In 2012, he returned to Genworth as Director of Government and Industry Relations, leading the company’s engagement with regulators across all U.S. jurisdictions. He launched a growth initiative that exceeded its five-year premium goal in just 13 months. Pat later became Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at the American Council of Life Insurers. He led the creation of the industry’s first Chief Diversity Officer forum and Women & Diversity Leadership Conference, and helped shape its first public positions on climate and sustainable investing. He also launched a nonprofit to support affordable housing investments and secured funding from 41 founding members. Most recently, Pat served as Chief Government Affairs Officer at Everlake Life, where he was fulfilled by his work and surrounded by wonderful colleagues.
A man of many talents, Pat served for nine years as the Music Director of Alpha Theatre & Arts Company in Richmond. He was also a skilled guitarist and vocalist, avid cyclist, officiant, white wine connoisseur, and ice cream aficionado.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Pat’s name to either the Richmond Food Bank or Friends of Virgin Islands National Park.
